A quick update!

I am on a bit of a hiatus from my usual crafty endeavors as we have been house hunting and now packing to move in a few days. I am sorely missing my memory keeping supplies, pens, inks and papers, but I will have a dedicated crafting space in our new house, which is so worth the time away. Looking forward to sharing pics of things once we are settled!

Day in the Life – 07.30.16

For this edition of Day in the Life, our family was getting ready to head home from our vacation at my sister’s. That meant laundry, packing, cramming in a few last minute fun things to do, saying goodbye, a long drive home, and unpacking. Needless to say, this was a welcome change of pace from my last DITL.

I again used the kit Ali Edwards created for this project and fully embraced the concept of taking one photo an hour. I set up alarms to go off every hour and then just let the day progress as it would.

It’s always a dicey thing to be working on a photo project when you aren’t in your normal surroundings, but I made sure my family knew what I was doing and, for the most part, they happily played along.

The layout for this one ended up being pretty simple, especially within the confines of the DITL kit and the fact that it needed to fit within my main PL album. It also helped that I had exactly 16 pictures. Overall, I really like how it all came together.

PL 2016 – Weeks 28 & 29 & 30

Week 28 is one where I collected a bunch of quotes, but only managed to take one single, solitary photo, and an accidental one of my knee in the car at that. Oh well, nothing I can do but make lemonade out of lemons. So here is that one picture surrounded by some of my favorite quotes found that week.

Kudos to Color Cast Design for having the perfect wood veneer piece with which to add a little embellishment to an other wise sad spread. This is from her Hot Mess set.

PL 2016 – Week 28

Maybe the reason I don’t have many pictures this month is due to the fact that for the first year since 2012 that we aren’t travelling to see my favorite band, Alice in Chains. They did tour this summer, but either played festivals or opened for Guns N’ Roses, and only played a few solo gigs well outside of driving range for us. They have a killer live show and I am sad to have missed them this time around. Here’s hoping they are out next year. I WILL NOT miss them again.

PL 2016 – Week 29

And while our travels this year did not involve any concerts, it did include a week long vacation to my sister’s house in the Twin Cities. The kids all had a blast at ‘Cardboard Camp’ and in the pool, while the adults enjoyed each other’s company.

PL 2016 – Fourth of July & Week 27

For the past couple of years, we’ve spent the Fourth of July holiday with Kyle and Lori’s family in Clear Lake. There is just nothing better than being on the water during the day and enjoying the carnival and fireworks at night.

At the carnival this year, we let the girls ride on some of the bigger attractions – the Fireball, Genesis, the Kamikaze, and the entirely too large Ferris Wheel. Little Charlie wanted to ride on the swings, but couldn’t quite stretch enough to meet the height requirement. I especially enjoyed the late night boat ride back to the lake house.

Any more, it seems I spend my time lettering and crafting in the evenings while the girls enjoy their summer vacation. Imagine my surprise when I learned that my lettering practice helped me win an IG giveaway. I get to choose a handmade Travellers Notebook, bookmark, and folder from Analog Stationers. I can’t wait to pick mine out!

PL 2016 – Weeks 25 & 26

The end of June was all about getting my crafty on – lettering, Classical Education plans, pen pals, PL, and OLW.

We also read up on Ilvermorny,  the American School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, and were sorted into new houses there.

Oh, and there was an amazing PB&J with Amish Blackberry Jam.

PL 2016 – Week 24 & Decorah

I don’t know about you, but I sometimes find it difficult to document everyday life. Let’s face it, our days can be monotonous, only occasionally broken up by a special occasion or something curious/exciting/funny, which makes it hard to find new stories to tell. And sometimes, the news of the world is just so heart rending and horrifying that I want to curl up in a little ball and hide rather than go through the effort of documenting the seemingly insignificant happenings of my family. This week was one of those times.

On Sunday, we woke up to the news of the mass shooting at the Pulse nightclub in Orlando. 49 people killed and another 53 wounded in what ended up being a terrorist attack/hate crime. It was a hard day, as were the ones that followed.

I found myself deeply saddened and prone to tears several times over the next few days. Suddenly those little everyday moments became a saving grace – Gus snuggling a little too close to Sophie, writing out the lyrics to Queen and Bowie’s Under Pressure, making time for crafty endeavors, and connecting with nature and as a family. These small moments remind me that I need to carry on, to keep living my life  and telling my story as only I can.

We can’t stop bad things from happening, but we also can’t pretend they didn’t happen. They carve out a place in our lives and deserve a place amongst our stories.

PL 2016 – Weeks 22 & 23

Week 22 Highlights:

  • One last sunset boat ride on Clear Lake for the long holiday weekend.
  • A going away part for our dear friends, the Hagness family who are moving down to Alabama.
  • Dante was a bad kitty and seemed to revel in the mess he made knocking over the garbage can.

PL 2016 – Week 22

Week 23 Highlights:

  • Ella matched with the Hoove Band in the My Waterloo Days parade and it was HOT! She came home sweaty and flushed from the heat.
  • I’ve become obsessed with brush and hand lettering. Ordered new markers and pens to experiment.
  • Our annual Bring Home All The Stuff From Desks and Lockers Before School Ends Day. I take pics of the bounty each girl brings home from school at the end of the year.  It is very apparent who inherited my organizational skills.
